It costs much less than invasive surgical procedures and is generally much safer than plastic surgery. At Wall Street Dermatology, we provide Botox® in NYC so you can improve facial wrinkles and lines and achieve a smooth, glowing complexion.

While cosmetic Botox® injections are generally safe and effective, it is also important to understand what they can and cannot do, along with any risks involved. Having the right expectations and finding the right cosmetic dermatologist to perform the procedure are key to patient satisfaction.

Dermatologist Dr. Julia Tzu’s Perspective on Botox® Treatments

Dr. Julia Tzu

“There are few noninvasive treatments in cosmetic dermatology that offer the dramatic and immediately gratifying results that Botox® provides.  When performed skillfully, results are natural and facial expression is retained. My patients are always amazed by the profound but natural appearing improvement in their wrinkles after their injections.” – Dr. Julia Tzu, MD, FAAD

Botox® Treatment Areas

Botox® is an FDA-approved cosmetic injection that treats muscle-related lines and wrinkles, often known as dynamic wrinkles. It’s derived from botulinum toxin type A. Although botulinum toxin is a bacterially derived toxin originally discovered for its role in a serious medical condition called botulism, the drug itself is very safe and effective in reducing wrinkles when administered in appropriate doses and in the correct anatomic sites by an experienced dermatologist.

Botox® blocks the nerve impulses that cause contraction of the muscles leading to lines and furrows. Simply put, the facial muscles that cause wrinkles have a reduced ability to contract, resulting in smoother skin with a youthful appearance.

Crow’s Feet

These wrinkles form at the sides of the eyes and often appear when you smile. However, more severe crow’s feet are visible even when your face relaxes. The eyes are one of the most prominent aspects of the face and often where others look first, making these wrinkles an unfortunate indicator of age.

Frown Lines

The vertical lines found between the eyebrows are known as frown lines. These lines often produce unwanted expressions of exhaustion or anger even when your face is relaxed. Botox® helps relax the facial muscles between the eyebrows for a smoother complexion and a more relaxed appearance.

Forehead Lines

Forehead lines run horizontally across the forehead. Similar to frown lines, forehead wrinkles create unwanted facial expressions such as a look of surprise even when you don’t feel this way. As you age, these lines only grow deeper and continue to age your face.

Bunny Lines

These lines appear on either side of the nose and are most prominent when you scrunch your nose but can be visible even when your face relaxes. Dr. Tzu carefully injects the needle on either side of the nose for a smooth, youthful appearance around another prominent facial feature.

Facial Slimming

Overactive and overdeveloped jaw muscles (also known as masseter muscles) can give rise to the appearance of an overly wide lower face. Botox® cosmetic injections to the jaw muscles can be used to slim down the muscles, slenderizing the lower face and giving it a more youthful, tapered  appearance.  Injections can also be tailored to make the face more symmetrical if, at baseline,  one side of the lower face is bigger than the other side.

Chin Dimpling

The chin can sometimes adopt an uneven, dimpled appearance when contracting the lower face and neck. These dimples, sometimes referred to as “peau d’orange” (orange peel) can be smoothed out by injection of Botox® to the mentalis muscles of the chin.

Wrinkles around the Mouth

Wrinkles around the mouth, sometimes known as smoker’s lines, are the vertical lines around the lips that become more prominent when talking or pursing the lips. These lines can deepen with age and repetitive facial expressions, leading to a tired or aged appearance. When Botox is injected around the mouth area, it can help soften these lines, resulting in a smoother and more youthful appearance.

Lip Flip

A lip flip is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that involves injecting Botox into the muscles above the upper lip. By relaxing the orbicularis oris muscles, the upper lip gently curls upward, creating the illusion of fuller and more defined lips.

This subtle enhancement can complement other lip augmentation treatments or be performed on its own for a natural-looking enhancement.

Brow Lift

A non-surgical brow lift, achieved through precisely administered Botox injections, targets muscles such as the corrugator, procerus, and the superior lateral orbicularis oculi that pull the eyebrows downward. Botox relaxes these muscles to create a lifting effect that elevates the eyebrows to a more youthful position.

The brow lift technique opens up the eyes and diminishes the appearance of hooded eyelids, resulting in a refreshed and rejuvenated look.

Avoid Developing Wrinkles with Preventative Botox

Preventative Botox, also known as early intervention Botox, is gaining popularity among people in their 20s and 30s as a proactive approach to combating the signs of aging. By administering Botox injections before wrinkles become deeply etched into the skin, you can maintain a smoother and more youthful complexion over time.

This preemptive measure temporarily paralyzes the muscles responsible for repetitive facial movements, such as squinting or frowning, thus preventing the formation of dynamic wrinkles. Embracing preventative Botox offers long-term benefits by preserving skin elasticity and preventing the progression of fine lines and wrinkles.

By starting Botox treatments earlier in life, you can potentially delay the need for more invasive cosmetic procedures in the future, such as dermal fillers or cosmetic plastic surgery.

BOTOX® Before and After

BOTOX® Cost in NYC

The cost of Botox® in NYC typically ranges between $500-600 per area and treatment session. Costs vary depending on the location, treatment area, and complexity of the technique to achieve your desired results. Botox® is more expensive than this range when dealing with jaw or masseter muscle injections due to the sheer volume of Botox® units required. BOTOX® Procedure

Botox injection is a simple and nearly painless procedure which means you won’t need any anesthetic, including topical numbing cream. Dr. Tzu carefully injects a thin needle into your desired treatment area and repeats as necessary. The entire cosmetic treatment lasts only a few minutes.

What is the Recovery Time For Botox Injections?

There is no recovery necessary for Botox®. You can return to normal activities such as work immediately following your cosmetic treatment. For the best Botox® results, it’s important to stay upright, avoid rubbing the injection sites, and forgo any overly strenuous activity for up to 24 hours.

When Do You See Botox® Results?

Botox® results are visible within a few days but take up to 1-2 weeks for full enhancement. These results last around 2-4 months, with some clients reporting results lasting 4-6 months. After this time, it is recommended you get another procedure to maintain your smooth, youthful appearance.

BOTOX® FAQ

Yes, Botox can provide a brow lift. When Dr. Tzu injects the treatment around the eyebrows, the muscles relax and pull upwards, elevating the height of the eyebrows.

You can get Botox on the forehead, around the eyebrows, eyes, nose, and other parts of the face. This targets signs of aging such as forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines, and more.

Yes, Botox can get rid of smokers’ lines. While these lines seem like they result from smoking, they are most common for repeated muscle movements around the lips. Botox relaxes the muscles and relaxes the skin overtop for a smoother complexion.

An ideal candidate for Botox is at least 18 years old, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and has wrinkles and lines that are muscle-related. If you’re ready to regain your youthful glow, contact Wall Street Dermatology to learn more about Botox in NYC.

Anyone over the age of 18 is eligible for Botox injections. If you are looking to take preventative measures to avoid wrinkles in the future, most experts will recommend waiting until you are in your late 20s or early 30s before you begin treatment.

Your skin will likely begin to lose its elasticity around your 30s, leaving you more prone to fine lines and wrinkles. While most people wait to get Botox until their 40s or until they have noticeable wrinkles, you can schedule preventative injections in your 20s to stop the wrinkles from ever developing.

Typically, Botox results last between three and six months. However, there are some ways that you can prolong the effectiveness of your injections, including:

  • Avoiding sun damage
  • Moisturizing
  • Reducing your stress levels
  • Avoiding nicotine
  • Performing low-intensity workouts
  • Taking Zinc supplements

When performed by an experienced medical professional like the ones at Wall Street Dermatology, Botox injections are completely safe. Botox is  used for both cosmetic and medical purposes to reduce wrinkles, migraines, and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).

Botox that is not given by a professional runs the risk of some side effects if injected incorrectly. These may include bruising or swelling at the injection site, flu-like symptoms, facial asymmetry, muscle weakness, and infection.

You should wait at least a day after your Botox procedure before performing any strenuous exercise. This will allow the Botox to settle into place and prevent it from moving to unwanted areas. After 24 hours, you can continue your exercise routine as normal.

Botox is a temporary solution that helps reduce wrinkles and make you look more youthful. The effects usually last between 3 and 6 months, at which point you’ll have to schedule a follow-up appointment to have another round of Botox injections.

The average Botox appointment only takes around 15 minutes. Botox is often referred to as a “lunchtime procedure” because you can be in and out of the office before your lunch break is over. If it is your first time getting Botox injections, you should allow a little extra time to have your dermatologist explain the procedure to you.

If you are thinking about getting Botox to reduce lines and wrinkles, this will likely be seen as a cosmetic procedure and will not be covered by insurance.

Botox has been approved by the FDA to effectively treat chronic migraines, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), overactive bladders, and eyelid spasms. There are also a few off-label medical uses for Botox, including treating jaw pain (TMD), nighttime teeth grinding, and facial tics.
