Biopsies
When the diagnosis of a skin growth or rash is uncertain, a biopsy procedure is often recommended to clarify the diagnosis. The biopsy procedure is performed under local anesthesia and involves the removal of a piece of the involved skin tissue to send off to a laboratory for analysis. Specialist physicians called dermatopathologists then analyze the prepared tissue under the microscope and provide a diagnosis, which is issued in the form of a biopsy report.
